I just went out to start my 03 C5Z and I found the tachometer was not working. I couldn't find any fuse specific to it. It's been extremely cold up here lately but the cars kept in an insulated garage so I don't believe that would have an affect. I tried repeated start up's and it didn't change anything.. Where would be the first places to look for this problem? All the other gauges (oil pressure, gas, and temp) all work.
Sometimes some weird stuff happens with that serial line in the accordion sleeve between the door and A Pillar. I have had that effect my window control and a couple of the gauges. Open the door and squeeze that accordion rubber a little and then try. The plug inside the A pillar that runs through there is known to have issues at times from corrosion and shorting.
The PCM is connected directly to the Crank sensor , no fuses involved .
The sensor signals should be viewed with a diagnostic tool first and secondly the12v reference and ground connection and signal value should be measured on the PCM input
The car has been sitting and everything worked when I parked it. The only thing different is I had the negative battery terminal off and on a couple of times. Could that have caused the tach problem?
