Default C5 Convertible trunk latch.

i recently replaced my gas struts on my 03 vert. After changing, the trunk will not latch.

i took the carpet piece off the back that is above the latch and it closed fine! i took the opportunity to line the lock, put the carpet back on and it will not close again

The solenoid works when i use the trunk release or the key fob.

I have had the top down recently and feel like its some kind of nanny that the trunk won't close while the top is open, but i've closed the vert canopy a few times but trunk still won't latch unless carpet is off.

I hate to take it loose to adjust for fear of not getting it back right.

Anything else i'm missing?

So you, and others know, you can't open both the cover and the trunk lid at the same time, unless you use the emergency bypass cables. That said, I don't think this would affect latching. Have you changed any alignment settings? Since you installed new struts, are they the correct length? Could be they don't have the necessary travel, and are bottoming out before the trunk lid is closed. If it worked before you replaced the struts, I'd suspect the new struts aren't correct somehow.

It isn't difficult to adjust the latch to the striker on the trunk lid, just loosen the two latch mounting bolts enough to allow the latch to move with some pressure. Hold the lid open just enough to see the latch and striker near each other and move the latch so it's opening is aligned with the striker, then tighten the bolts. It might take a few tries to get the closed height right. If you decide to do this, remove the latch and clean out the old grease in it then relube it with new grease. That alone will help in pushing up the lid when the latch is energized because the old grease gets dried up with age and adds resistance to the moving parts. If the latch is misaligned to the striker it's possible that the new struts are pushing with more force causing jamming and the carpet if not in the way just adds more friction to the operation.

Try taking the struts off (or put the old ones back on) and see if it works.

Anyone can make a mistake, but C&S is usually pretty good at knowing what your car needs.
