Default Question about 3:15 performance ratio??????

I looked at my options and extras on my 2003 coupe and I have the 3:15 ratio. My question is does this improve on the top speed or faster on the 1/4 mile or what? If I didn't have this could I be able to tell if I drove a vette that didn't have 3:15 ratio? I'm still a newbie and this is a newbie question.

faster on the 1/4 mile

yes

be able to tell if I drove a vette that didn't have 3:15 ratio?

I can tell a difference between the 3.15 and the standard Gore-gears 2.73

determine your C5 rear axle ratio

I am also new, you would notice 3:15 over 2:73 and most certainly would notice 3:73 over your 3:15's. If you get into making you car perform better you may find the 3:15's will not meet your expectations for ultimate performance. There is a reason why the z0-6's have a 3:42...it is quicker than the 3:15. A lot of the performance driven z06 folks go with much higher gear packages for better performance. Hope this helps.

Z06s also come with a manual transmission. The transmission, not rear-end or axle, ratios are significantly different than those in an A4. The combination of any given transmission ratio, based on the gear you are currently in, and the axle ratio will give you the final drive ratio.

I don't have the Z06 tranny ratios handy, but you can see the impact of changing axle ratios by looking at the 4L60E here:

For the record, all C5's with a manual transmission come with 3.42 rear gears. The Z06 has shorter gears within it's transmission than other standard tranny C5's.
