I know this is going to be a dumb question, but what is the easiest way to know what gears you have? Also, can someone tell me what happens to highway MPG with different gear setups?

2.73... Great fuel economy and I like to go 100 plus at times. 2.73 is easier on the motor and easier on high speeds and fuel.

PS: The 2.73 is a faster car than the 3.15 gear arrangement!

JCR, when you say faster, are you referring to top end? What is the approx. topend on a basically stock C5 auto?

I've had 3.42 and they are fine but the 3.73 Getrag Rear end reins SUPREME! :smash: Get the 3.73 and be done with it. Ultimate for the street and no problem on the highway! That way you won't always be second guessing whether you should of done the 3.73, etc.

My Vert came with 2.73, but I changed to 3.15 last summer.
The change improved my 1/4 mile times.

In the past, you could crawl under the car and read the tag on the gear. Since some people are opening the carrier and changing the ring and pinion gear, they may not remove the tag. Thus confussion may result, rpms at a certain speed would now be the gauge for certainty.

The taller the gear the more revolution at the rear wheels, thus less gas mileage and rwhp on a dyno.
