Something to think about: some folks have had problems passing the smog sniffer test with upgraded cats, they couldn't get them hot enough to light off and work. Also, for for stock to even fairly well modded motors (like mine) the stock cats don't seem to be much of a restriction, so I spent the money on other things, didn't seem worth it to me.
I hope you don’t mind me ask a question but what about taking the cats off will I fail emissions, and I don’t have to worry about that yet because here in Iowa we don’t have them. Will you loss or gain any hp? Thanks
My understanding of taking off the cats is that HP is available, BUT there is an issue with a smell of gasoline and/or rotten eggs.
The smell is the big issue.
As for smog, at this time in my area no one lifts the car to inspect cats, if they did it would fail visual inspection. However, some have hollowed the cats out which I guess does the same as removing, and still pass visual.
At the tail pipe, with the smog machine inserted fully into the tail pipe and enjoying every minute, I might add, I think it depends on the reading. It could pass...the engine burn so darn clean, I just do not know.
