My Hurst in my Z06 makes some kind of aweful rattle/buzzing sound as the rpm's start to rise. It seems to be less with heavier springs. Is there a fix for this? Could it be the shift stop bolts or the springs them selves? I might try adding some grease to the springs and re-install, any thoughts on this?
My Kirban was buzzing (didn't on my 2001 Coupe), turned out to be the plastic cap with the embossed shift pattern. Installed felt underneath, where it contacted the shift **** itself, and now it's quiet.
I am going through the same thought process right now. I had the Hurst installed and removed it for two reason, one the buzzing you mention and second my wife didn't like the shift effort. I have seen several good reports on the MGW ****. I don't know which is taller, the pistol grip or the gripper, but I am considering getting this one to stop the buzz and also lower shift effort. Those that have them report the noise stopped with this ****.
So, which one provides more shift leverage, gripper or pistol grip?
I don't know about the Gripper and I don't have any problems with the Hurst, but my pistol grip is taller and lessens the effort required to shift, while still giving a shorter shift. The only problem with mine is that it turned from silver to kind of a gold color, apparently from perspiration. But it's not that bad looking when I use Brasso on it.
I wonder if you have the shifter resting against the stop bolt. If so, that might be causing the problem. Some people take the bolt out because the transmission apparently has stops in it, but the shaft is not supposed to be resting against it. If so, it might be a vibration from the drivetrain.
Thanks for the **** info.(kind of feels odd saying..****) Which one do you guys like? I don't wanna play the trial and error game.
Thanks,
Jeff
Take a look at the Team Voodoo Titanium Ball. It's fairly heavy, prevents noise (at least on my Kirban) and looks great. Two disadvantages: gets pretty warm in our summer (car parked: cools right down once underway) and is a bit pricey.
Hello neighbor, Ashburn here also. I had the same problem with my 99. Make sure the stops are backed out more than the 1/4 turn they recommend. Had a bad rattle and pulled the Hurst out, reset the stops and don't have the problem anymore. Also went with the MGW pistol grip and Love it.
Let me know if your interested in seeing it.
One thing I d id try was to leave the **** off and take it for a drive, if it doesnt rattle, then its definitely your stock ****.
Thanks for the offer, since we live nearby I would like to see the shifter ****.
Drop me an email with a phone number. I removed the shift stops since apparently they are not necessary on the C-5's and it seemed to help but it might just be the ****. I will remove it and try without it.
