Default Spark plug change?

I would like to change spark plugs on my 99 myself, but I here you guys go on about how difficult it is and I’m wondering if there is any “best way to do it” advice out there?
I don’t even know how to get to them.

All plugged up.

Thanks, I knew I would get that reaction from someone. No offense meant, none taken.
I really would like to do this job myself though, I have all the tools and know how to use them I just never bothered to look for the plugs yet as I have only had this car a few months and haven't looked at the engine much.

Non plugged.

It's really a pretty self-explanatory job. You take off the fuel rail covers and the spark plug wires, find the appropriate socket and drive and take out the plugs. It is really not a difficult job at all.

I was wondering what those fuel rail covers covered.
If that’s all there is to it then it should be no problem for me to change them.
Thanks. :)

Unplugged. :seeya

The fuel rail covers are really just a cosmetic thing since there are a number of wires under them and the oem valve covers are not to exciting to look at (just look at any LS1 Trans Am or Z28/SS). I was a little hesitant about doing it myself, but once I took the fuel rail covers off (no special tools required, just gently pull them off) I saw how easy it really was. You may need an extension for the drivers side rear plug. Don't forget to use a little never seeze to ensure that they'll come back out and don't overtork them. Good-Luck.

Here's a DIY from the Tech tips section...

https://www.corvetteforum.com/techti...ID=7&TopicID=1

The number 7 plug is PITA... but it just take patience... Investing into a snap-on swivel sparkplug socket worked for me...

Hey, thanks for turning me onto that info.
I'm new to the forum and haven’t found all the goodies yet.

Is there really any big advantage in changing the stock plugs to something like the NGK TR55 plugs?

Thanks.

I just undertook this job with the help of my friend Bill (Bowryboy) this weekend.

It was tough (I had to use my daughter (smaller) to help a couple time) but overall very gratifying to start that car up and he it run again without any audible problems.

It took me 1 hour 45 minutes but next time will be less. He does it in half hour now.

Once you figure where to place every thing you are golden.:) :yesnod:

I switched over to the NGK TR55 coppers and used the default gap the NGK's came with... I think they're 0.57 or 0.55.... can't remember. Anyway, I definately noticed an improvement... The better combustion made it drive like wild banshee under the hood.
