Seen two dyno runs, one with long tube headers without the cats and he only picked up 8 hp. The other one was no change but just a cat removal. Not worth the risk or energy.
I keep hearing people talk about the "risk" all the time as if they actually knew something. Fact is, the amount of hydrocarbons dumped into the air by your car is negligible compared to a diesel and most family sedans.
That said, I agree :iagree: that you will not gain anything but an odor that many of us more "mature" individuals have not smelled in a long pre-catalytic days time if you remove the cats. Leave the main cats - gut the pre-cats if you have them (I did on my 2001) and just run on. To gain any amount of RWHP via the exhaust, you will need to install long tube headers.
I guess we're lucky here in Texas. Most of the inspection outfits think a cat is one of those little furry things that meow and purr. No tailpipe sniffing in my county and no visual inspection other than to look at tires, wipers, lights, turn signals, horn and brake lights. Takes 10 minutes and $13.50 to get you out the door.
Of course, we don't hug trees here either (unless we're drunk). :jester
Gotta love this Texas air. Premium gas = $1.64 a gallon at Chevron.
