I took my Vette into the dealer for the standard GM oil change and check up (Dont flame me for this). Any way, when I got home I noticed a silver dollar sized area of fluid/oil under the differential. I cleaned it up, checked the plugs all tight, no visible fluid from the seals, and no more fluid this morning. Today after a quick run to the coffee shop and some errands, came home parked and had two drop of fluid in the same place again. Ran it by some Vette friends and they felt that my spirited driving :auto: may have thrown some diff oil out the top of the diff. Any one here, heard of that before or am I missing something else. I really dont want to take it back to the dealer unless necessary. This is a new Getrag 3.73 rear end with about 600 miles or so on it. Thanks! :seeya
Had the exact problem on my '98. My Corvette Tech at local dealership identified the problem on several of the Vettes he services. He wrote a GM service bulletin fix for it that all dealerships can access.
It is a single cover plate bolt that seeps. Not the o-ring ,or a crack, or overfill,
or even hot expanded oil venting through the top vent hole.
If you would like to call him directly let me know.

:iagree: Same on my 99. Went through the whole gammit and four visits until they replaced the cover. According the TSB, the problem lies in poor machining of the cover by the sub. Good luck.
Just had to have my side cover and axles seals replaced on mine at less that 10K. Dealer did the work under warrantee and have had no re-occurring leaks as to date. The initial leak was a nuicience leak, about one to two drips a day over a two week period. They used dye and found the side cover leaking and also replaced the axles seals . This seems to be a common problem with the getrag.
Bolt leaking?. It has to get passed the "O" Ring to get to the bolts though. I remember that when I replaced my old O Ring it looked ok. It must harden under heat and pressure and a seepage results that finds its way to a bolt hole and then shows itself. Forget the damn O ring and use a good anaerobic sealer or even a good high temp gasket making silicone . That is the sure fire fix in my opinion.
