As mentioned in this great Forum, sometime after the 2000 model year GM upped the recommended oil change interval from 10,000 to 15,000 miles. I get about 3500 when the oil life warning comes up on the DIC. It matters little whether the usage is mostly in town or on the highway at low RPMs in 6th by contrast. This doesn't seem right - my driving conditions are favorable. Has anyone had the DIC warning re-programmed? Did GM adjust the programming on recent model years?
I have about 17-1800 miles on the last oil change and 87% oil life remaining. I use nothing but Mobile-I and everthing is great. 2002 White Vert. Just thought I'd give you a comparison.
I reset the warning and change the oil when I get ready according to the mileage. I bet you can adjust it with the Tech II. I have custom programming in my computer, if the dealer touches it we will have a big problem. You just might see me on the 6.00 PM news.
What mods do you have, has the thermostat been changed? Also, how is your oil temp readout? If it appears inaccurate, the wrong information may be computed. Mine has been very good.
Thanks guys. Based on the replies, my DIC reading is out of whack. Mobil One or Red Line oils make no difference in this parameter. Engine mods are practically nil - blackwing, NGK copper plugs, and the DIC has consistently complained at around 3500 that is was getting close to the time to change the oil, since it was new. There's 14,000 on the odometer now. Oil temp stays in the 180-200 range.
