Re: Vette vs. ss (FRC21)
Christ- THIS again???? How many times must be have the F-body-v-C5 debate?
Most stock f-bodys dyno higher than stock C5's because there is more loss in the C5 drivetrain through the IRS.
True, but your reasoning is incorrect. It's not the IRS. IRS doesn't affect much except your ability to get off the line. A dyno won't see much difference between IRS and a live axle.
The C5 has a REAR mounted transmission. That means a driveshaft spinning at ENGINE speed. As anyone who's taken highschool physics knows, it takes CONSIDERABLY more effort to spin a drive shaft at 6000 RPM than it does to spin it at 1000 RPM. (I'll leave the actual calculations up to you. Feel free to IM me if you want the answer).
I am so disappointed with the amount of mis-information in this thread that it boggles the mind.
stock for stock i never lost to a c5 from light to light. if we ran for top end then of course the c5 won(had time to catch back up). i swear f body's are quicker from light to light.
If they were the same then why buy the Vette? They are $20,000 cheaper for a reason.
Thats what i always wondered untill I got a vette. The Vette is 100 times better then my camaro. Its a more all around sports car. I know my camaro wont be driven no more since I got the corvette. I love this car!!
But then again I always LOVED draging Cocky C5 owners in the camaro. :D They just dont expect it when they see a young gun trying to race them. But now im one of them. I drive a Vette
From what I know dyno numbers they are fairly close... But when ever i go to the track and see bone stock F-bodies run they are only traping 103105s...? There are bone stock FRCs running 110 traps... thats a big difference...
My buddy had 98 Ram Air Trans Am... He was only traping 105-106.... Guess it just depends if your car was built on a weds or not
$ for $ the F-Body is a better bet. Not to mention I rarely see a stock F-body anymore. They have 20k they can put into the care before they even hit vette prices.
I love my vette, but in a straight line, the F-body is right there.
Now, take the F-body and ask it to make some turns and the vette crushes the f-bodies.
