I just started having the problem with the gas gauge on my 2001 vette. Yep you got it-- the one that scares the stuffing out of you when you see your gas gauge drop from 1/2 to empty in 0.2 seconds. Some people have said that it is sulpher in the gas and I have read that others have been having the same problem with all different kinds of gas. I have used only Amaco since I got the car. Has anyone come up with a fix that really solves the problem? Thanks
just clear it in your DIC and fill it up with gas. i sometimes get it when i'm below half to 1/4 tank. i just clear it and fill it up right away and it goes away. i never bothered to bring it to the dealer and my warranty is over. there have been some forum members that have had the problem return even after having warranty work done. go into your manual diagnostics in your DIC and clear the code out.
There is a Bulletin which addresses this problem. You have to change the sender depending on a code which is on the sender. You might have a code stored that may lead to which sender is defective. If you take it to a dealer, Please do the Technician a favor---don`t fill the car up before you take it to him. The tank(s) have to be drained to replace the sender(s)
Five for me but I'm beginning to believe the gas thing. Been using only exxon and seems to have fixed the problem at least for now. Also the unit cost nearly 800.00 plus labor.
