Hey guys, quick question. I goofed today when the LOW OIL LEVEL message appeared and may have put in too much oil (it is unfortunately all too common for me to goof something up :( ) It is past the operating range mark, exactly even with the "x" on the word MAX on the dipstick. In the manual it says that too much oil will cause damage, is this a posterchild for that? Can I wait for the next opportunity for an oil change (TS Bill is coming) or should I park it until I can drain it myself? I've been meaning to put a magnetic drain plug on, is this just as good a time as any? Thanks in advance for any input you may have.
Too much oil in the pan can lead to oil foaming. Foaming oil does'nt lubricate well.
You can drain out a small amount by removing the plug and putting it back in. (guaranteed to make a large mess), or maybe get 4 feet of small vinyl tubing and a large syringe or similar device and suck it out through the dipstick. You'll have to thread the tube down the dipstick to the pan. Very little mess. Just don't forget to remove the tubing before you start the engine.
6.5 quarts with filter. Next time you change the oil, put exactly 6.5 quarts in with a new filter, run the engine till warm and then next day check the level and mark "Full" on the dipstick.
Thanks for the info  The reason there was too much was I simply topped it off in the nearest auto parts store parking lot. I will take care of it as soon as the storm passes. Until then, the car ain't movin'.
Oh, one more thing :bb I had to drive a ways from the store back home with too much oil, am I looking at major problems now? The pressure gauge didn't do any funny things, and the car ran fine. Thanks again.
