I am pretty sure that my corvette is supposed to have 6 forward gears. I only have one. It seems that something in the linkage between the shifter and the transmission has come loose. The transmission is stuck in third gear. When I move the shift lever it feels like it is in Jello. I cannot get it out of third gear or move it into neutral. I checked the linkage and slip joint at the shifter and it appears to be Ok. How do I check the rest of the linkage? Is there an access panel somewhere? Do I have to have someone remove the trans? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Did you recently install a Hurst? Sounds like a throw stop. If you are using the stock shifter, then it sounds bad. I don't know of any way to look at trans without removing it.
The problem is not with the shifter, I already checked. The problem is with the linkage between the shifter and the trans. It is either broken or something has come loose allowing the shifter to move without a corresponding movement in the shift forks. Is there any way to check without removing the trans and torque tube? Is there any access to where the shift linkage goes into the transmission? I could not find it.
The connection between the forward shift shaft and the transmission has a clamp on in. Maybe this has come loose. You will need to remove the console and shift boot, etc. to get access. This is what the little pin on the shifter is for, to adjust the linkage. There is a procedure in the service manual on how to do this.
