For those that were curious it put out 529RWHP and 498RWTQ yesterday.
You are joking right??!!?! If not, Kaltech should be very embarrassed about their work. That motor should be putting out 600 rwhp and rwtq easily.

Where there are still a few restrictions on the car that we noticed such as a stock throttle body, blackwing filter, and non-LGM headers. :D

Not sure what the customer wants to do yet but I would be curious to see what it would do with a ported TB, a big air filter, and our LG headers.

Also we really don't know how well this custom intake is flowing...

Does it have a stock C5 cam in it :jester Something has to be a bottleneck. Those heads on a 427 CID block should easily make 600 rwhp and rwtq.

600 rwhp and rwtq.
It made 640bhp on an engine dyno before installation.

Just a question, not a dig....but what bumped the price to 50k? I was looking into engine packages and came across the 7.0L C5R engine from Katech and Extreme, both listed at 27k....thanks

I bet it was the C5R heads and custom intake. Solid roller no doubt contributed as well. :yesnod: Probably a few other pieces we don’t know about….

FYI: most people incorrectly refer to C5R blocked 4xx ci motors as “C5R motor”.
Where the reality is – it’s nothing more than a regular stroker with stronger C5R block.

The real C5R motor would be C5R block and at least C5R heads or C5R heads and C5R intake.

Just for reference/comparison, does anybody know what the real C5R's put out in full race trim for TQ/HP?

If I remember correctly, I think it is around 650ish.

Living 12 miles from Road Atlanta, I've had an opportunity to spend some time around the C5R guys (Johnny O'Connell actually comes to a couple of our Corvette club meetings each year). The GM/Katech boys are pretty close mouthed about power output, but I get the impression that 650-700 flywheel HP is about right. Remember that 1: those engines have to last for up to 24 hours of racing and 2: there are intake size restrictions similar to NASCAR's carb plates that limit output. Without these limitations, Katech could probably pull another 100 HP or more out of the C5R motors.

Exactly,
Ktech builds the real C5R engines to last 24 hrs. They also get the numbers through a very small pair of restrictors to meet the Lemans rules.

A professional set of real C5R heads, complete with Titanium Valves, and all the work that goes into them is in the neighborhood of 10-12k per set
then you have a $6500 for a bare block. That is almost $20,000 and you haven'e even put a penny on the Crank, Rods, Pistons, rings,Machine work, gaskets, Sheetmetal intake manifold. then add custom Fuel rails, C5R valve covers, Solid rollers, and solid roller rockers, double timing chain, Coil relocation brackets, special wires, Steel head gaskets, fuel pressure ragulator, special return fuel system,
Then you have LABOR, to assemble etc.

That is how you get to a number close to $50 K. (which, by the way, was just an estimate, bsed upon what our own race engines cost for our Rolex car.) It may have cost less or more, we do not know for sure.

Speed is not cheap, and when you use parts, like a set of true C5R heads that need a custom manifold, the costs go up very fast.

thanks,

Lou G

I'd appreciate as much info as you can dig up on the Katech coil mounts, fuel rails, etc. I've had several conversations with those guys, including one in person at the Petit Le Mans race at Road Atlanta last October. They definitely gave me the impression that they were not interested in dealing with people who didn't have the backing of a factory race budget.
marco383 - I ordered a set of Katech's "New Design" valve covers and coil relo brackets yesterday. They arrived today and appear to be identical to what is on the C5R motor here. Except they are not engraved - I was told that their machinery is backed up and they haven't programmed for these units yet. I can send them back for "Corvette" engraving this winter. Anyway, give Jim @ Katech a call he has 25 sets available. FWIW. Good Luck.

jmX - Valve covers - $560
Coil reloction Brackets $320 - come with custom length wires and boots.

Valve covers are a solid cast finish. Relo Brackets mount to the top surface of the valve covers- not on the injector/fuel rail. Very sturdy set up. I'll try to get some pics up this weekend.
