I bet with the right sized cam and the mods Godspeed mentioned, that car will be in the 575 range. People usually undercam stroker cars for driveability purposes.
BTW, are the duration and lift specs on the cam a secret or can u let us know?
Any updates, are you putting on your headers, ported TB, or better intake, also whats the redline on this thing, thanks
We spent significant time on this car tuning for driveability, which proved to be quite a challenge with the marine injectors it came with. This GTR and the Katech motor is truly a piece of art work like no other and would be as much at place in a museum as it would be on a track.
I have not talked to the customer personally, but my understanding at this time is he is not interested in going after a max horsepower number. We did suggest going to a larger cam, trying our headers, etc. - so he maybe back later. The funny thing about power is that you can never have to much. So if he get's bored with the 530rwhp he left with I'm sure he'll come back to squeeze another 20-30 out of it.
Seems like a very large sum of money to gain what, 100-150rwhp over a worked H/C package?
If someone came in the shop and said, hey I'll spend $8k to get 450rwhp.. then you replied.. but wait! You can spend $50k to get 600rwhp! I'd go.. wait.. I'll take the 450 package with a $1200 nitrous system, mmmkay? :jester
Seriously though, can't you build a higher-revving 383 or 427 and make these numbers without breaking the bank with the trick parts? Whats up with the cost? I know the custom work costs money, but you'd think the custom work would have big payoffs, and it doesn't seem like this thing is making a heap more power than a comparable 427.

Re: C5R Engine Pics (Dylan Savage)
The $50k was a guess based upon what a true LeMans engine costs. The real C5R heads are very hard to get, and their cost is based upon the fact that they are hard to get.
My Rolex engines cost about $48,000 each, and they are only SB2.2 heads. A good set of SB2 heads, complete costs about $10,000 alone. So the C5R Lemans heads will run a little more than that, just because of the short supply.
Then add a $6500 for a bare block. And about $2000 to prep the block, including sleeving the lifter bores for a solid roller. and you are over 20K, and you don't even have rods and pistons.
And since this is a Katech engine, you will have a set of $2000 Carillo rods, and coated racing pistons and a $3500 custom crank. All of which need work when you get the parts. And I almost forgot, the custom Aluminum Fabricated intake manifold, and custom fuel rails....Add $4000.
This is a far cry from a street engine, of any cu in. This is a true race engine that happens to be in a street car.
So, having said that, we build a 427 with a C5R Block only and like most tuners, we use a stroker kit, that comes complete for about 4000 with rods, pistons, and crank. These internals are more than enough for a street engine, but they would be too heavy for a race engine. The street version is built to last 10 times more miles than the race parts. (The race parts only have to last about 3000 miles)
You usually get what you pay for. I just ordered a Crankshaft for a Rolex LS6 engine for a Daytona Prototype. It cost me $3500 just for the crank. We cannot build a competitive engine for that series unless we match the competition. The rules call for a 335 Cu in LS6 engine. That means that we have to use a "Destroked" crank.. Got any laying around??
Speed costs money, and when there are rules in organized racing, the rules sometimes make it more expensive.

Re: C5R Engine Pics (msuc5vette)
For those that were curious it put out 529RWHP and 498RWTQ yesterday. We still have some more tweaking to do and hopefully will have the opporutnity to install our headers.
If that was my $50K I'd be ticked
:yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:
It's sweet looking, but $25k will give you the same numbers at MTI, right? $50 large for a pretty fast, pretty engine? Uh, no...

Re: C5R Engine Pics (Godspeed)
can't remember where I saw it but I think it was out in the open parking lot on the North side of the coliseum, they had a couple of race engines and one was the Katech 427 with 8 stacks and the other had that intake, I remmber thinking it must have been a custom made intake because of the way the runners had been smoothed out and that great red metallic paint.

Katech did a beautiful job on the intake.
AND THE GUYS WALLET but I do understand it takes big dollars for that kind of work. It is nice to say I have a C5R motor but for 25-30 I guess Lou could have built him some motor. :yesnod:
It's probably chump change to the guy who bought it so all the more power to him.
