my wife hates driving my car with the hurst shifter, i already went to the 2 (of the 3 supplied) lightest springs
my question is, is there a problem running only one light spring in each side
i know it sort of defeats the purpose of the shifter, but it still is a really short throw
thanks, jake
I used one each of the light springs on each side and I have seen one or two people running no springs at all. It won't do any harm, the springs are only there to help guide you into the 3-4 plane. I haven't had any problems with missing the 2-3 shift, even at WOT on the strip, using this setup.
The purpose of the shifter is to reduce the throw and thereby reduce the gear change times, not to make it more difficult to change gear. When I had the medium or stiff springs in place I found that I would end up in 4th when I was trying to change up from 5th into 6th. You don't want that to happen at high speed !
I use just the lightest on each side and it works fine. Like most people, you still have to watch the 5-6 shift to ensure you don't get back into 4th. It is harder to shift than stock, but to me the criispness and shorter throw are worthg it.
