Yes. People have mentioned it. I think they said a little alcohol on the MAF wire will clean it off. I have a K&N sitting in my garage but I have debated putting it in for this very reason.

The wire is suposed to burn any residue off.

I may be wrong but I believe the 97-2003 MAF does not have a hot wire sensing system. I think It uses 3 very small temperature sensitive resistors and if you try to wipe them with alcohol all you will have is junk.
I would think that you could spray them with alcohol but dont try to wipe them clean.
If I'm wrong about the resistors, someone PLEASE correct me.
