Default Blackwing install problems?

I heard from a couple of guys that there is a problem with the blackwing mounting holes not lining up. Has anyone here had a problem installing this. or is this just a bunch of :bs

The Blackwing install on my 02 was a 45 min job. The airbridge mounting holes do not line up for full reinsertion but it's not a problem.

I just installed mine and while I did go back and adjust it to fit, I'm still not happy with the install. It fits over the posts but does not lay flat, it rubs against the insulation for the hood. I'm going to try it one more time, perhaps some use has loosened things up a bit.
Bill :) :)

Tip: Leave all clamps loose enough (even at the MAF) so you can readjust the position on everything prior to tightening. This has helped me. :)

Mine is off a little, but I installed a carbon fiber air bridge at the same time. :iagree:

I have seen at least one C5 here in Chicago that experienced problems with the intake system "bowing up" when installing the Blackwing. Seemed like the complete assembley was just a little "too long", if you know what I mean.

I already had a Halltech CF airbridge when I installed the BW - still I had the dimentional issue. It still seemed as if the system was a bit too long. With mine, I carefully trimmed the silicone coupler (up by the throttle body) to half it's original lenghth and it fit like a glove. If you have retained the original accordian coupler and bridge, it may not fit quite right, as I referenced above. Generally, however, everybody seems to love the Blackwing.

I'll be interested to see if anyone else has seen any fitment problems with the BW.

I had that issue until I loosened clamps and pushed them on a little better. Fits perfect now.

:iagree: Yup, that's what I was talking about in my previous post. The factory rubber boots, especially those nearest the MAF, have deeper grooves than most people realize. Here's where some soapy water really helps to get you're pieces shoved all the way into the grooves of the boots.

Same here...Trick for me was to put some silicone grease over each of the grommet areas (4), loosen everything and then pop in place. Went flush with the radiator shroud, then tightened all the fittings. If fits great but just takes some work.

No problem what so ever. Everything fit like it was suppose to. Took about 45 minutes, but I'm old and slow. :yesnod:

I had to file out the left front hole of the Donaldson a little less than 1/10th of an inch (make it slightly elliptic) to make it 100% fit.
Then the airbridge can be installed totally flush with the shroud. I used Vaseline at all airpath rubber parts.

Hope this helps.
Roger

Thanks to all who replied. It looks like I will just have to take a little care and time to make sure all clamps are left loose untill parts are fully together. Again Thanks, Dave :seeya :grouphug:
