Default Cam install question?

I am putting in a LPE Gt2-3 cam and when I installed the cam, it seem to slide too far into the block (note: this is my first cam install). When I installed the cam retainer and then the timing chain, I had the pull the cam forward a little bit so the cam could mate with the timing chain. I compared the length of the old camshaft to the new and it seems to be identical.

any advise? Thanks

Not a problem. Chain will align it.

Dont worry. After you install the retainer plate and upper cam gear, the cam has very very little fore and aft movement. The retainer plate is what keeps the cam from going forward, the cam gear is what keeps the cam from going aft. The retainer plate and cam gear work together to keep the cam in its proper location. Once the 3 cam gear bolts are installed, the cam is in its correct position and alignment. The chain just turns the cam.

Make sure you loctite those 3 bolts. Its a long story but those 3 bolts came loose on my STOCK engine, which was built by GM or whoever builds the engine. To make a long story short, the 3 bolts came out about a 7/16 of an inch, causing the cam to migrate aft which caused the cam position sensor not to work because the reluctor wheel was misaligned to the sensor, which caused prolong starting. Anyway, just make sure you loctite those bolts very well and then torque them.

Thanks!! I added a hefty amount of Locktite to each of the bolts and torqued them perfectly. Sorry to hear about the problem you had.
