My battery on my car keeps dieing. It died a while back and I figured out that I had a bad alternator. Got it fixed and it ran great. Last night I hooked up a maf translator to the car and drove it all night w/o any probs. Go to start tha car this morning and dead. Jumped it, got it runnin, checked to see if I left any inside lights on and nothing. Now the battery gauge reads 12volts. Any idea what could be killing the battery. Tha maf translator????
What type of battery do you have? If it is an AC Delco, I would opt for a new one (they do have a much improved model) or an Optima as a replacement. Once they are "dead", they often fail to revive completely and do not hold a good charge. I would go for new, and a Battery Tender! :smash: :yesnod: :)
A jump and a drive is not enough to fully recharge the battery. Any number of auto parts stores can run a load test on the battery to tell whether it is shot or not. Never assume the battery is at fault unless
a) It is approx. 5 years old or older
b) It cannot be charged completely
If you DO need a replacement battery, don't get a standard lead-acid type - if it ever leaks, your computer and wiring mounted below the battery could be toast. Get an AGM-type battery. ACDelco makes a 650 CCA Platinum, as does Optima with its Red Top.
If it is the Delco AGM it is probably dead (mine died at 3 years and 4 days) wouldn't last the weekend even after a deep cycle charge. Go and get a Red Top Optima do not go with another Delco AGM POS...
Judging by your wagon wheels you have a'97 or '98. If this is the original battery, it's at least 5 years old. After having been completely discarged during it's life, I'd say it's time for a new battery!
Mine did the same thing even with the new battery I put in when I got rid of the delco---replaced the altenator as it was not getting a charge, it killed a cell in my new battery which was under warranty---removed the battery box and found the delco had leaked and though it took a while to do it, it had corroded a lot or wiring under the battery box, my extended warranty fixed the problem thank god as the starter (450 bucks) also needed replacement, I would deff pull the battery box and look at your wiring, remember you may not see it on the insulation as it slips inside the insulation and attacke the wiring, run a meter on the main red wire that goes to your positive side of the battery and runs to your starter etc. and if you have the delco dump it--this is a 10 dollar battery on a 50K car---
