I've got the headers in but when I install the bellhousing bolts and leave the headers at their widest setting the collectors are about 1/4" too close from matching up with the X pipe. I removed the bolt in one of the headers and the X pipe slid right on. Do I need to do come custom work by slotting the flange at the Bell housing bolt?

It will ether be behind the differential or in front right behind the cooling fans, not sure what year it changed. I have a 98 and mine is in the back. It gets in my way when i drop the tranny, kinda wish it was in front.

Phillip,
When Jim (200MPH) and I put on my LG Pro Longtubes this last weekend, we had the opposite problem as the collectors were a little to far apart to go into the x-pipe. We were able to use lots of muscle and just push them closer together and then everything lined ok and we got the bell housing bolts in. I would just try using some good old fashion muscle to move them before I resorted to slotting your flanges.

Phillip,
Remove the bell housing bolts, slip on the x-pipe, and then push the whole assembly whichever way you need to to line it back up with the bell housing holes. Once you have the x-pipe on, you have the proper spacing for the brackets to line up with the bell housing holes, you just need to push real hard on the whole assembly to get the bolts started. Once we had the bolts started it was no problem. That is what we ended up doing.

Installed my headers by myself - whew! - but the one thing I did to line them up for the x pipe was to take a nylon tie down strap, wrapped it around the collectors and tightened down till they fell into the x pipe --- sometimes I amaze myself!!!
Love those headers, no cats and my Hooker mufflers. :seeya  :flag :steering:

Phil,
I am sure that by now you have completed the install, and are driving around with a big smile! But, if not, then feel free to give me a call if you are still having a tough time with them.
If there are any minor issues with the headers, I need to get some feedback so we can do the "tweaks" for the next batch.

Re: LG Pro long tube install question.... (Phil97SVT)
Phillip,
What all did you take off the top of the motor to slide both in from the top? We only removed the coil packs, and then all we had to do was take off two nuts to raise the motor. That seemed a lot easier than taking off the valve covers since we had a lift and were under the car anyway. I guess if you got both of them in from the top then a DIY'er should be able to do it without a lift.
