Default Autox Help

We took my 98 coupe autocrossing with the M club on friday. My left knee kepy hitting the bose speaker panel. It felt like I was bending it. Anyone every experience that? Seems like a I need a new speaker housing.

What happens when I open track it? WIll a five point harness help my knee from hitting it?

Any thought would be helpful.

I autoX a lot and am surprised you are being bounced around that much. Are you a little guy? (I'm 6'-5" and weigh 220lbs) - no flame intended. We have a few small folk racing in our club and they wear volleyball kneepads turned outward to keep from slamming their doors. I drive a 6-spd and use both feet so I don't get bounced around at all.

Good luck.

I am 5'9 but my brother who is 6'1 complained of the same thing. We were tossing it around pretty good. What kind of tires you use? We used the 17 inch rims from my brother's firebird. I am about to buy some kumhoos.

I have the same problem. I've tried putting the seat all the way back, tightening the belt, and pulling the seat forward. Didn't help. I tried a torso strap. Didn't help. The cars I've been in with racing sets AND 5-points are only ones I haven't moved around in.

See that dead pedal to the left by the kick panel ? Put your left foot on it and plant your foot (push on it) on there firmly. That way, your body will be in a more rigid, planted position and your knee will not wander trying to keep yourself in place. It works on me. Hope that helps.

Just brace your knee on the door and roll with it... You won't hurt it too bad...

If you're driving your car correctly, you'll be bracing yourself against every rigid surface available, including the speaker grill!

As much as I try to avoid it, I end up using the grill quite a bit. Luckily, the grill always seems to flex back into position.
