Ok...5K miles ago at 27K, I changed out the diff fluid due to the whine in the rear end on sharp turns. Now at 32K, it's back...so at the device of some forum members I put in Amsoil, and new GM additive. Drove the car...did circles in a parking lot...and it's real loud now...sounds horrible. What gives here? I'm really disappointed in this f'n car. I've owned it since Feb and all I've done is change out gear lube and fix battery acid spills. I've never had this bad of luck with a car....Of course..this is the first american car I've owned...
Any thoughts on this?? Nowhere on the Amsoil bottle does it say that the GM additive is present. Am I missing something??

Sounds like your gearset is not aligned properly in the transaxle. Are they factory gears?
Do you know the ratio? Does it whine on deceleration and get a bit quieter on mild acceleration?
Re: Amsoil in the Diff....still loud...going insane!! (SFVetteman)
Which Amsoil did you use? If the Series 2000, then the additive was not necessary as it was in the oil to start with. Not sure on compatibility either. Many on this forum recommend putting in the GM additive no matter what the oil, and compatibility is an issue (especially true with Redline oil who have their own additive).
The additive only will help with chatter, not with a whine. Sounds like something mechanical is wrong with the rear end. If you bought the car used, the previous owner may have run the oil low and caused some damage. LG Motorsports had some brand new units for sale a few days ago at a reasonable price, you may want to snap one up if you have an auto (they were 3.15 ratio). Good luck, hope all comes out OK.

I had a similar problem in my 2000 coupe. I bought it with 19,000 mikes and was horrified by the noise that I thought was coming from the front.
Turns out the previous owners dealer tried to replace the fluid and apparently missed the special recipe.
My dealer knew exactly what the problem was, a TSB exists I believe. He added the proper fluid and the dose of "new" GM additive and the problem has been gone for 20,000 miles.
I hope your solution is as simple.
The only consequence would be that you go to the dreaded dealer, mine was warranteed and the dealer is real good about caring for my car.

Amsoil says it will not hurt to add or leave out the GM additive.
Redline says do not add the gm additive.
It depends on the Amsoil product. The Series 2000 already has the clutch additive, and putting in more effectively eliminates the limited slip capabilty of the differential, i.e., the clutches are too slippery.
