engine life relative to an engine w/o the pulley then "no". All the pulley does is slow down the accessories. By reducing accessory (all the componants driven by the crank) revolutions, the pulley will lesson the drag put on the crank (this is where the hp comes from). Your crank, and therefor your engine rpm's and the load put on it, do not change.
As C5kid stated, it is an easy 8-11 hp if you're doing the h/c swap or have the balancer off already. However, if you're not taking it off, then consider you'll be removing at least the steering rack (and maybe the radiator) and all componants remote to the damper. You stated that you are having someone else install the headers, so I assume you aren't completely comfortable tackling this job yourself. Based on this, I assume you'd be paying someone else labor to install the pulley. At $50-80/hr, this could easily turn your $250 pulley into a $400 job., to stay at the low end.
I'm not trying to persuade you to go one way or the other, but these are things to consider. In the end, this will come done to what resources and time you have and if the HP per dollar figure is right for you. Hope this helps and good luck.

I'll ask my mechanic what he wants to do - he's generally pretty good about talking me out of things - but will most likely wait until I do the H/C, if ever.
