Default My Borla Stinger Experience

First off, my thanks to Traceys2Vettes, KonaVette, Lancer033, and all of the others that not only suggested the Stingers, but provided me with a vendor from whom to get them at a very good price.

(It is a non-forum vendor; if you're interested, IM me and I'll be glad to give you the information.)

Thanks also to the people that replied to my "HELP!!!" thread while we were installing it. Didn't want to cut the stock pipes away, but we ultimately had to.

The install is very, very easy. It only becomes difficult if you try to save the stock pipes while using ramps or jackstands or something to lift the rear of the car. Unless you're three, three and a half feet off the ground, it's just not coming out in one piece. :yesnod:

Right now, one of my tips is just barely touching the recessed area of the bottom of the bumper, and that pipe is awfully close to the plastic panel of the bottom of the storage compartment in the hatch. Will be adjusted tomorrow.

The sound... well, yeah. Awesome. I was all like, "Holy (poopie)" when I started the car and drove it off the ramps. Deep, throaty, pissed. There is some resonance between 2,000-3,000 rpm, but it's not unbearable by any means. Actually, it's nowhere near as bad as some people make it sound. One of the cool things about the Stingers is that how they sound often depends on your right foot.

Can't wait to hear it some more on the way to classes tomorrow morning.

I've got the Borla quad setup on mine and they're loud. They do resonate but what the heck. If I grew up I wouldn't want to let it rip in 2nd gear at 3K RPM going down the steep hill in my home town (Port Jefferson NY). It's lots more fun and the brake light bulbs last longer too. You're sure right about the tunes you can get out of them by manipulating the long pedal. I love 'em and so does my wife.

Welcome to the Stinger Club. Their deep, throaty idle sound is unmatched and their wail while the revs are up is intoxicating, to say the least. I've had mine installed for less than one week and I can't get enough of em!

Now put on a set of longtube headers and you'll really hear em sing. I haven't turned on my stereo once since installing them.

Hey...congrats on getting and enjoying your Stingers!
I'm on the verge of that same purchase, but I have LG LT's, and my car is receiving a H/C install as we speak...so I'm concerned about the noise ordinance around here. W/o H/C, and LT's it wouldn't be bad. Even with just LT's it would still be alright, but the H/C install has me a little worried!
I recently heard a C5 with H/C, and LT's at LG Motorsports, and the exhaust was deafening! He had Stingers on. I liked the sound, but was convinced upon hearing it, that it was definitely going to get him a ticket!!!
I was wondering if anyone else has this exact set-up, and if they have had any ticket problems??? I'm still interested in the Stingers, but don't need constant ticketing problems. :(

When I had my stingers, at WOT they scream. But it also attracted cops like flys to poo :D Whenever I would step on the gas, any cops within 5 blocks would come searching for the car racing around  I had to get rid of the stingers before my luck ran out and I lost my hearing

Glad you like them. I had Corsa Pace Cars on my 2001 6-spd and changed to Stingers. The Corsa's were too quiet and anemic. The Stingers ROCK!

You sound like an old man. :D If its too loud, your too old. A harley davidson is much louder than any car exhaust I've ever heard. I drove around with 2 chamber flowmasters for 3 years on my mustang. Got stopped 3 times. Each time I was let go because they have better things to do then give tickets for noise. Plus I think all they really wanted to do was checkout the car. hehe

Hey...congrats on getting and enjoying your Stingers!

It's not that it's too loud for ME "butt-head", it's just that I'm not stupid enough to draw continual attention from the P.D. up here! ;)

You're right, Earl - $550 for quads and $450 for duals - unbeatable deals!

We always carry a large inventory of Stingerss just put them on my 150K LPE 427 TT and I can feel more power even after I installed the Xtreme hybrid turbos from one of our kits (a new one which we hope to release in the next 60 days or so) which gave me over 60 more rrwhp over the stock LPE units.
We carry 2 and 4 tip as well as round and oval tips.
Unlike many competitors we drive and test every item(98%)we sell.We have a shop full of highly experienced techs so in most cases if your having an install problem which is often the case with this system, just call and we can have a tech on the phone with you usually right away at worse we'll call you within 10-15 minutes and walk you through the install process step by step.
This is a value added item we dont charge for.
On another note we spend many hours each day handing out free advice to our community(the forum) and its companies like ours that keep this forum free for 70,000 people who love and care for there Vettes as we do when we sell a part or do a shop job on a clients car. Each time someone dilutes the process by IM'ing guys that sell out of there garage and dont pay the fees on the sale to the forum and dont pay the monthly flat fee's on top of that but get free advertising by other forum members it makes this Forum an endagered species, and we all loose out.
I'm not saying XTREME should be your vedor but I will tell you if your having problems andyour warrantty is over or if your product is defective a tunner/parts house like ourselves with real life business overhead including tens of thousands of pesos yearly to the forum deletes the whole theory and speaking with other friendly competitors, they get hurt BAD!!! and we all feel like dropping out and letting people save 9.00 on a part, have a problem with a Borla product theres a new one on its way that day, even if we have to drive it up to the UPS depot ourselves and pay someone double time to make good on the part.
The other guy may carry what ever he can find at a middle man price add 10% which is almost our Forum commision and if you have a problem he wont fix it for you and if Borla has no reciept from a WD(Wholesale Distributer)they will wish you good luck before they hang up on you.
To become a WD with Borla for example is approx. 25,000.00,and that was years ago, today it could be double that because they dont want there products horsed and they will protect us before the consumer. If you call them and ask where to buy one in all of Cali,NV.,AZ.,CO. and all the states surrounding they will instruct you to contact XTREME,because there super satisfied how we treat you given the chance.
I'm sorry if I'm crying the blues but the only way for the forum to survive and remain free is to earn a living,so all 70K of us must deal with supporting vendors we pay the tab for all of us and I fear if this was a 7.50 per month fee VS. free it would go under and we would all loose out. Thanks for listening this would probably make a good thread, its a very valid topic and I have been building cars since my pre-teen days and learned from some of the greats and to have had accesability to something like this wonderland of knowledge would and is today an UNREAL TOOL.Dave Smilovic XTREME
PS: If we can be of any help or answer any questions on thais unit(Stingers)or any part or problem your having please feel free to call and watch us in action,Dave. 480-517-4969.
