Re: Anyone install a center console light? (Evil-Twin)
Well lets see some pics of the installed item!
Yeah, that´s how I started. I took like eight photos, which all turned out bad.
When I went to the second try, my batteries were out, and I had no more at home.
Will get new, and post some pics then.
Maybe you need more light... If you had a light in the console... maybe the pictures would have come out...
Hey Evil-Twin, Just curious, I've noticed your always razzing folks but with your Occupation: GM Engineering, Plastics and Automotive Technology it seems like you might help this guy out  I know getting close to 60 yrs old has you getting a little bitter  :jester

Hey Cary ! How can I be bitter ? Ive been retired a few years... between travel and the casino and my grand kids and playing around with the C5... Im having lots a fun... If I razz people , its only because someone else has the original posters concerns covered... I dont take life too seriously... IM just tryong to get a few laughs...
BTW Ive helped hundreds of people here... Ive written several tech tips... and am always willing to help anyone ... or poke fun at them... its pretty easy to tell the difference..
Also with this nickname... I have a reputation to keep up....
The C5 was my last active project with GM...

I really like your lamp idea.Hmm,I may have to stop at the lamp shop next week.Plenty of illumination with that setup. :chevy :chevy :flag :chevy :chevy
I am working on an idea for a console light. If it works out, it will be small an unintrusive. The light will come on when you open the console lid and shut off when you close it (Just as the C4's lid does). Except it will be of a difference design than the C4's. Another plus is that it should be very inexpensive to purchase. If I can find all the parts I need, it's going to be great! I'm working on a prototype right now.
I'm willing to discuss my design idea with a forum member that is knowable in electronics and design or fabrication, PM me.
Re: Anyone install a center console light? (Shylor)
Seriously.... this is a five minute visit to radio shack,,,, one micro switch, one 12v dash light... a little wire.. total cost... 5 bucks... take the b+ from the accessory socket already in the console.. this should take no more than a half hour ...or the time it takes to read this thread...
OH I just had a thought :D
Go to Kmart, or better yet SuperKmart... get one of those round battery powered closet lights.. you know the ones that look like a flying sausage...ermmmmmmmmmm one of those round thingie... and glue it to the roof right over the console... or better yet.. turn on both of those lights , those map lights found on your rear view mirror.. I know they are only for reading maps but if you put a map in your console,,, it will be ok...
My idea was to make a light that just plugs into the a/c outlet inside the console. I chose a white LED so it would blend with the C5's map lights and not be to bright for the inside of the console. Plus it has a low current draw and will last a very long time. The body of the light would basically be a cigarette lighter adapter plug, that way there is no drilling, screwing or bolting. And the console stays in stock condition. The light would be directed down. A microswitch with a lever contacts the C5's accessory rubber plug and also makes contact with the console lid. With the lid closed the light would be off and with the lid open it would on.
The idea was for this light to be non-intrusive, easy to put in, easy take out and most importantly, your console remains stock.
