Default Front Leaf Spring Splintering

I noticed that my front leaf spring is splintering. the fiberglass strands are delaminating and basically springing out towards the front of the car. Only a few strands and only for a few inches. A search turned up that this has happened before and may be a sign of premature spring failure. So a few questions
1) Has this happened to anyone else?
2) How do I get Gm to replace it under warranty? Or should I wait until it fails?
3) How would I know if the spring is failing/failed?

the car has been lowered about 1.25" in front 1.5" in rear. Its a 2002 without Z51.
I appreciate any help!
Thanks
Chris

2) How do I get Gm to replace it under warranty? If you still have a warrantee take it to a dealer! If you warrantee has expired good luck!Or should I wait until it fails? I don't think that's wise, you could end up dead if it fails at the wrong time.
3) How would I know if the spring is failing/failed? It's failing now

I noticed it on my '97. My crank oil seal was bad, and was dripping onto the spring, which is my guess as to why it started.

I used it as an excuse to install Z06 springs. My car is a '97 though, not an '02, and had about 75K at the time. Not sure why yours would be splintering so early?

I decided to replace mine, since I was going to be racing, and the peace of mind knowing I had a good spring was much more worth the cost for some used Z06 springs on the trader. I wasn't too excited about the spring splintering under the kinds of loads I was going to show it at 100+mph!

I bet GM would replace it under warranty - that's not right.

Happened on my 98. I bought an almost new base spring from a forum member and replaced it. I had about 45k miles when I noticed mine. Get GM to replace it under warranty.
