Synchromesh Equivalant?
Does anyone know what the Synchromesh equivalant is? I am putting a Tremec 5 speed in my 70 vette and did a search of the archives. C5s are the only place that are mentioned in the archives. SO, I thought I would ask you guys if you know the equivalant. I am thinking one of the Dextrons is the same as Synchromesh. Is this correct? Hopefully Dextron III is the same.

Re: Synchromesh Equivalant? (Eddie 70)
:yesnod: Yup. All the C5's with the six speeds come with (and specifically call for) Dexron III ATF. I am presently using Red Line's ATF and am very happy with it. Amsoil and Royal Purple brands also offer very good ATF's as well. HTH

The GM Synchromesh is a semi-synthetic fluid with different properties then the ATF that goes in the C5. Some have used it in the C5 for better shifting since it seems to do a better job with the syncrho's, however the long term effects are still unknown. Don't remember the other manufacturer's, but I can find out if you need it. You could also post in the transmission section on Bobistheoilguy.com for more technical information on these lubricants.
Syncromesh is very different then Dex III. The Tremec 3550 you are using requires the Mesh..Penzoil now makes a Mesh equivalent available at most good parts stores for 1/2 the price of the GM version. We have used it for a while with good succes.
