Default Changing front and rear sway bars

Do I have to take the wheels off to replace sway bars,or can I just jack the car up and replace the sway bars? :chevy :chevy :flag :chevy :chevy

And, might I suggest (if still using the soft "gummy" stock rubber bushings) you convert to urethane so the bars stand a chance of doing the job for which they were designed? About like a size upgrade! I've never seen softer bushings than the stock ones!

All the best. :yesnod:

What about a torque wrench, is it necessary to use one? Or can you just tighten as "tight as possible" with a reg. ratchet wrench.

Rod

Be careful when tightening fasteners that go into aluminum components! I would use the torque specs that JMX provided. Aluminum can strip out easily!

Avanti

Where did you purchase your urethane bushings? Sounds like a GREAT up-grade!

Bill:

Several urethane suppliers are around. When I did mine there were none that were graphite impregnated fo the C-5; so, I made mine greaseable (some squeak otherwise--depending on many factors). Not long after I did mine, I got a catalog from Progressive Suspension, or some such (sorry, I forgot exactly who) and they now had them!

I bought a set of regular urethane from Summit Racing for the mear sum of about $13 for the set of four (obviously, no "Corvette Tax!"). Again, too long ago to remember specifics. I went to the Summit site or catalog and checked the brand they carried (some name brand in the business) and then went to the manufacturer site to get part numbers, went back to Summit, and ordered by part number (after confirming they were correct because they were so cheap).

I'm sure a google search for "graphite impregnated urethane suspension bushings" or some variant would produce the company for them. I'd put enough work into redoing (adding zerks, etc.) the ones I had, I decided to leave them on.

All I can say is, that for less than a $20 delivered and little time and not much trouble to install, they make one whale of a difference! Btw, if you do them, don't tighten down either side of the front until both busings are in place, because, unlike the rubber that lets the bar flop all over the place when one bushing is connected, the urethane won't do so. You'll see what I mean about the rubber bushings if you pull a bar loose except for a single rubber bushing. It might as well be mounted in Silly Putty.

Sorry, I cannot give specific companies, it's a bear to get old and forgetful, but better than not getting old at all.

All the best. :yesnod:
