The other day I was driving (hard as usual) and the check engine light popped on. When I got home, I let the car cool off for a few hours. Then went for another drive. The light hasn't come on again(knock on wood). My center console gets REALLY hot after a long ride. Is this from the headers? What is the deal, do I have anything to worry about? I appreciate your help!
Check the codes on the DIC.See what they are and you'll know what's going on.Then if you are having any problems you'll know how to remedy the situation.

I have the same problems with the center
dash. It is NORMAL say the DEALER :skep: My 02 Z gets hot and the 98 gets really HOT. I think it is a combination of the small light bulbs that light up the buttons and the heat that comes from the drive shaft hump. That hump gets HOT! :D
I am going to install a new shifter soon and while I have it apart i am giong to install some extra insulation to keep things cooler! I have already installed the stuff on the floor and the sides of the hump and WOW, it really made a difference there with the heat and road noise! :thumbs:It made a tremendous difference in the 02 ZO6!
If you want I can send you the name of the stuff that is needed to do the job.

LGM installed a tunnel heat shield http://www.lgmotorsports.com/OCLS1_Corvette_Cooling.htm on my C5 at the same time of the Pro LG LT Header system and the center console area is definitely now cooler :D . I noticed w/stock exhaust system my center console area would get rather warm but now I never notice the area to be warm.
Are you running O2 sims? Right after my longtubes were installed one of the sims got to close to the header and burned it out and was throwing a code. Replaced sim and light went out.
Yes the center console is getting hot because of the exhaust system.. and engine, radiator and everything else that heats up on the car. I have one of those heat shields and it does little for the sides of the console... A new unit that covers more of the underside of the tunnel has come out and I think that one would work better... although I cant seem to find it at the moment.
