The computer might throw codes. It uses the rear O2 sensors to see if the pump is working. I would just leave it hooked up as it only runs for a minute or two when a cold engine is started and doesn't effect performance.

Removing the AIR system is worth ten pounds.
Perhaps a resister or the like could fool the system so you could remove it and not get a yellow dash light?
