My 2000 hardtop has started exhibiting some crazy behavior.
First, the driver side door lost power (switches dead)
Then the instrument panel went crazy the oil pressure gage went to zero, gas gauge went to zero and the temp gauge went to max...the tach, speedo and volt meter work fine. Also the stereo is dead. Often, when the car is turned off and then turned back on the gauges and stereo will reset to normal for a few minutes before returning to crazy mode.....the driver side door regains power in less regular intervals. Now, when the vehicle is shut down the horn will chirp and sometimes the trunk will pop open..........I took the vehicle to the dealer and they said they could not find a problem..............what the f%&k?

Remove your battery and check underneath it and its tray for acid attack. Pre-2001 C5s have had a history of overtorqued positive battery terminals that later leak acid onto the vacuum lines and CPU, which are located underneath the battery.

Also, check for a wet BCM (Body Control Module), located in the passenger side footwell floor compartment. AC condensate can leak into the BCM causing all kinds of weird problems. The drain tube of the AC umit gets clogged, then the water drips onto the BCM.
Re: 2000 Hardtop Electrical Gremlins need help badly (Mr. Wales)
I was driving by and saw Mr. Wales in the process of installing an Optima Red Top! Unfortunately, it was too late! :( The left side post had busted and battery acid had dripped down into the tray and had gone further into the PCM. :( I know a certain Victorville CA Chevy dealer that I will not be taking MY car to for problems! :mad :skep: What a mess! I have an Optima Red Top on order from Jegs which should arrive on Tuesday. Hope I have no installation problems. I do not want to experience this scenario on my car!  A word to the wise-- Don't wait for this to happen to you! It is not pretty! :nono: Cheers! Mr. Wales Good luck to you as you depart the area for a new way of life! Thanks for your service to our great country!! :flag

Dave68, you seem to be a good source on this battery issue. I have a couple of questions. 1- Was this fixed by 2002? 2-Are the AGM 2277 batteries okay? I've heard that the replacement for the 2277 (the 2255) has more Cranking amps and holds a charge longer, but my concern is just the leak question. Is the 2277 okay on the late year 2002s?

It's a servo/relay in one of your doors. I had the same problem and my mechanic fixed under warranty. It was like my car's gauges were going crazy. It's a common problem on 00 vettes.
