Step 1: at the passenger side remove the footwell carpet
Step 2: remove the rear panel cover in the passenger footwell to allow access to the fuse box, remove the black fuse box cover
Step 3: removed fuse 22 (this is switched power which comes to live when the key is turned two clicks)
Step 4: replaced with a fuse pigtail wire (example see Mini Zekering Adapter voor Zekeringenkast (kabeldirect.nl)) and attach one or two wires to it with ends soldered to the pins of a cut off spare mini fuse (cut the fuse in two halfs and solder each wire to one of the pins). Use only one wire (and one half of the cut in half spare fuse parts) if you want to make one cigarette lighter plug switched otherwise use two wires and both ends of the cut in half mini fuse. BTW: You will have a spare 20A yellow mini fuse to cut in half when you replace both sigarette lighter fuses using the two wire setup.
Step 5: remove fuses 1 and 7 (for console cigarette lighter and regular sigarette lighter (or only one if you don't want both to be switched) and place one of the two 20A fuses in the new wire (put the 10A fuise of socket 22 in the other socket of the new wire. ensure you got the right fuse in the right socket (in mine it needed the 10A red fuse in the lower socket en the 20A yellow fuse in the upper socket).
Step 6: attach the (one or the two) wire(s) to go to the lower part of the socket of the now accessible sockets of fuse 1 and/or 7
Step 7: test this setup by turning the key two steps to the right, the cigarette plug(s) should then come to live and when the key is turned to the left the power should be cut off...
Step 8: reinstall the fuse box cover (tuck the wires needly underneath the cover)
Step 9: reinstall the cover plate and footwell carpet
Step 10: enjoy this easy fix!!!
