Default ...Another Trickle Charger question

Got a trickle charger as a present. After AAA charged the battery, I hooked up the charger. The guy from AAA said it was ok to connect the negative clip directly to the battery terminal since we had aired out any accumulated gases by leaving the hood up for awhile. It appears to be working - the fully charged indicator (the light goes off) is working. Is this a dangerous set up? Where else could I have attached the negative clip? Also, the charger itself fits in the "cubbyhole" between the battery and the engine. Please respond, I'm real nervous about this set up!

You could attach it to the engine block. I have done that before and have also had it hooked up right to the battery post and have not had a problem either way. Make sure that if you do attach it to the engine, that it is by no moving parts incase you forget you have it hooked up and start the car.

The potential for any problems is that the gasses from the battery are highly explosive and any sparks can possibly ignite the gasses causing an explosion. To avoid problems un-plug the charger before disconnecting it from the battery. :)

Yes it has some danger. To be completely safe just clip the negative terminal connector to the metal tab that stick up from the water pump.

Why take any chance?
