glass top question

1997 vette can you paint a glass top the top on the car look like it is peeling the clear is comeing off . this is the first vette i own so at times i have lots of questions thanks corvette forum

Don't think ya can paint glass; they do tend to pit (never seen one peel); but you might try getting a glass expert to polish it.

The "glass" tops are not made of glass; they are made of polycarbonate. I believe that it can be painted, but don't know how long the paint will last. Check with a paint shop to see if they have any experience painting polycarb. Just don't expect to be ableto go back to a clear/translucent color afterwards.

I have heard of the "peeling" condition of the transparent tops. I'd like to know the best preventative measures for it, but nobody seems to know. I wouldn't recommend painting the transparent top. I don't know how well that material will hold paint, and if it is already peeling...

It would probably be cheaper and easier to get a used painted top from ebay, or maybe a forum sponsor vendor. You may want to post a "wanted to buy" topic in C5 Parts For Sale/Wanted.

One other option you have is to exchange your top as a core for a new transparent top.

thanks guys for your info .the top just looks bad and i thought if i get it painted that would be cheper than buying one.i guess i will wat till a get a large amount of money to buy one.
