I recentley had this happen to me, and the sensor was dead. I went to the dealer and payed 180 for the new sensor and install :( . Oh well I got tired of the error message anyways.

I think if you search you can pick up the sensors for 80 to 100 dollars. I purchased my replacement at the dealer for 100. If you go anywhere make sure that they can service the run flat tires so they do not screw anything up.

Good luck :flag

Before you rush out to buy a new one you might to try retraining them (it) first.

On a different note though, sometimes a sensor can be slow to start transmitting. My right front one is kinda slow sometimes and I have to get up to ~50mph before it starts reading. Every now and then I'll get the "xxx" but I know from experience just to reset it and it starts working soon enough.

I see that you have a 97. Depending how many miles you have on the vehicle it is more than likley a bad sensor. What are the condition of your tires? If they need to be replaced soon I would recommend getting all new sensors at the time of your tire change. If the tires have lots of life left on them, check out supporting vendor Ken Fichtner Chevy and order an early model sensors for the bad sensor. He usually has a very good price.
The more miles your car has on it the more ON time the sensors see. I have a 98 with 57K on the clock and I am dreading the day when mine start to fail!
Some times they just fail for no reason. Try doing the "Tire Sensor Training" that is listed in the owners manual and see if that takes care of the problem.

For now if it is just one that is bad go ahead and replace it. I use Town Fair Tire for my run flat service. DO NOT assume that the tire store knows how to service run flats and MAKE SURE that they know how service tires with sensors in them!!!!!!! If they do not set the tire machine up properly they will RIP the sensor off the rim!

There are two types of sensors! (early) 97 to (I think2000) and late 2000 - 2004. The early sensors are larger than the later model ones and they operate on a different frequency and are NOT interchangable!

Try retraining them first. If that doesn't work, then consider spending the $$$'s for a new one.
