That's neat. I just got the metal gear kit (one) for $43 + $7 shipping. Hope that will last longer than the plastic one to make it worth the price difference. Good to know for the future (for the second headlight)

I needed a passenger side headlight motor assy for my 99 and bought one online from a wrecked vette. The motor I got was a glued on cover model, it mounted differently then my 99's. The motor looked like it was a left hand (driver) side with the way the 3 mounting bolts wee located. but the part# on it said it was for a RH (16530236RH). I had to take the guts out of the new one and use them in my original motor assy. All is good now.

Mine has been chirping for quite a while. Time to hit up eBay and fix this myself. Thanks for the inspiration. I can't believe I haven't been on here since 2008!!!

My driverside is grinding on the way down and i just noticed the driverside door lock is operating spuratically . I was about to really start tearing into , but i think ill just change the head light gear now and see if it clears the door lock problem up .

NO.......................... Replace the damn gear!
Bill I took my '99 to a detail shop. After cleaning under the hood my headlights will not pop up. The light switch works the driving lights and signal lights work but both headlights act like they are not being told to open.

Any Help?

If you start a new post,, you will get more attention.

The only thing a detail shop could have done is:

-Disturb the GROUND Block G101-102 that is located directly behind the headlight module on both headlights. If the pins inside that ground block are corroded, or the connection between the stud and the ground lug is dirty,, it can cause the that issue.

The other issue is the actual multifunction switch can be bad.

We can speculate all day/ You have to break out a meter and see if the actuator motor is actually getting voltageand proper ground at the motor connector.

This weekend I cleaned the ground connections and plug prongs (they did not look to bad). No improvement. I did find that if I pull the switch to activate the "Brights on" command the lights do come on. I also checked the plug going to the head lights them self right behind the head lights. I get constant power to the first two wires (I believe the center is the ground) so no power there the other two wires got no power no matter what position the head light switch was on.
