Default How hot is the differential fluid?

My factory fluid is at 25K miles and shifting is feeling a little more difficult lately. I was thinking about jacking the car up tonight and swapping with Redline ATF. How hot will this fluid come out if I am driving the car today? Should I let the car cool for several hours then do the flush/fill, or is it not even a problem?

My friend you asked about the diff fluid then you say you are going to change with redline ATF, I would think that you ment the tranny. I would let it cool for at least 30 mins.

Here is a "how to" that I put together:

:yesnod: Yes, I crossed my signals there -- teaches me to type before my brain catches up. The Redline is going in the gearbox.

While you're there, fill the differential with approx. 1 3/4 qts Redline 75W90 (no additive needed) and the MN6 with D4ATF (almost 4qts)

I change both every 35000 miles.

Hey gmblack3,

I wanted to let you know that your instructions were very helpful. Also, it appears my 2002 C5 is slightly different than your Z06. For my gearbox, the fill plug and drain plug were both 3/8" drive socket type plugs. Also, the fill plug did not have any kind of electrical connector going to it. I could see there was a sensor mounted near it, but nothing actually on it. I triple checked that this port was marked "fill" before putting anything in it

I'll send you an IM so you can include this info in your write up. I am not sure if it's a Z06 vs C5 thing or a 2002 and up thing.

Should not be any hotter than 140 deg if you drive normally! Let it sit for a few hours and drain it out!

I would let the car cool down for a few hours before tackling the job. No use in getting burned.

Thanks! The Z06 has the tranny overheat sensor there and the coupe/vert does not. I will try and change it soon.
