I just paid $150 for an alignment job on this car and it is worse that ever. It pulls to the left. I just took the car in for an alignment check and he said it was a negative 3 on the front right and a plus 5 on the left front.
I did have a new wheel bearing hub put on the front right just after the alignment. The car has General P 255/50 ZR 16 tires all around. The tech said he has a +8 camber on both front tires according to Spec's. and everyrthing is right accordinding to specs. Anyone know what the specs should be?
Before you get too fired up about the quality of the work (not defending the alignment shop) I recommend that you check the following:
Tire pressure! Make sure it is the same side to side.
Check the wheels for brake drag. Make sure you do not have a sticking calibertake the car for a 10-15 minute ride and when you get done feel the wheel rim on both side. They should not be HOT and should feel about the same temp. I would also jack up each wheel and spin the tire to see if it is free.
Bumper height side to side. If it is uneven you may have a bad spring.
The alignment specs are (1985 GM shop manual)
FRONT Caster 3 deg +- .05 Left and right sides to be equal
Camber 8 deg +-.5 Left and right sides to be equal,
, Toe .15 per wheel +- .15
REAR
Camber .4 deg +- .5 Toe ,15 +- .06
Vehicle must be jounced three times prior to alignment
All of those problems will cause it to pull!
Just something to check!
Did you post this on the C4 board?? Not that it matters. Vetts are vetts and I enjoy helping fellow vette guys/gals!!
Thanks for the reply. Yes I accidently posted this on the C5 Board and have put it on the C4 board. I will check the temperature on the wheels. The tire pressure is 32 all the way around. It could be a bad caliper. Everone on the C4 board point to web sites suggesting 0 negative camber, in a 84-96 model year range. These were not the "factory" specs.
Pull up GOOOGLE Search and look up VETTE BRAKES This company sells all kinds of C4 and C5 suspension and brake stuff. They also have a very good article on suspension alignment and suggested settings for street, track and race. I found it real handy for the C4 and C2 vettes that I have!!
