I did a search and what I have found is that upgrading the shocks SHOULD take care of the problem by taking away the springing action of the suspension. Has anyone done this and and which ones did you use?
I also plan on lowering the rear a bit. Any input is appreciated.
I wheel-hop when I let the clutch out at over 2000 rpm with non-run-flat Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. My car is a Z51 with zero mods and 30K miles on it. I think it is an inherent problem with IRS suspension. Luckily I did not buy the car solely to drag race!
My new spec 3 seems to be the culprit. If I am in gear already and just mash it, it just spins with no hop first or second. I only get it on a really hard shift or off the line on a hard start.
I can't help but to cuss every time it happens, it feels like the whole car is coming apart. I plan on BFG drags in spring, I hope it doesn't get worse.
I have Bilstiens shocks/runflats and when I get on it hard my wheels hop all over the place. It's the runcraps! When it's tire time bye bye runflats. I already have my plug/compressor kit and my mini jack will be here soon.
I have a Spec III clutch, Bridgestone Pole Positions, Bilstein Sports, and T1 bars and my car shakes like crazy if you roll out of first then stab it or hit a second gear fast, and on a cold day sometimes even third gets a few hops. I also run BFG G-Force Drag Radials at the track. They do reduce the number of times the car wheel hops but it is more violent when it does get the hops.
I doubt that simply changing runflats will resolve the problem.
Hmm. I never had the problem with the runflats, but they were bald as hell with no traction. I switched to the kuhmos- didn't have to much of a problem when they were new but now that they are half worn I hop.
You will just love this story! :D
I purchased my 98 MN6 coupe in late 97. After I broke it in (about 500 miles), I gave her hell   Well of course the wheel hop thing happened and the active traction failure warning lit up ect ect. Cleared the code and tried it again! It was worse this time. So,,, off to the dealer I go!
I tell him that i get a BAD vibration on HARD launches! He says "No Problem" !! Two days later I get a phone call fron the service manger who says; "We can not find anything wrong with your car"
Well,,,, I drove down there, asked the srvice manager to get in and buckle up! He said "how far are we going?"
I answered "Just acros the parking lot and back and commenced a hairy burnout that ended up in wheel hop! Man,,,, you should have seen the TERROR    in his eyes! He says; "Yep you have a vibration but I dont think we can fix it!
Then he made the statement; I dont think GM made the car to handle agressive starts like that!. I answered: Well you better get the distric manger to sign off on a statement like that!!!:cuss :mad :skep:
And here we are almost 7 years later talking about WHEEL HOP! :mad :cuss
