Could someone who has the Vararam (easier if not installed) measure the filter opening size including the lip.
I would like to check the availability of a "green" filter. If you haven't read Hib's write-up on the green filter, it is a good read and potentially a good match to this setup. From what I understand, those who have run K&N see some power loss. I am trying to figure out if that might be averted by going with the "green" instead.
If someone has the thread about a hydrolock with a Vararam (or Vortex for that matter) post it and prove it.
Urban myths are hard to shake, so with all the satisfied Vararam users out there, many in very wet climates, let me see a single legitimate post that it happened, and how. Otherwise I say :bs .

I hydrolocked with a vortex. That was me with the rod bent 15 degrees, etc.
Im not convinced the vararam is any more difficult to get water into though.
Oh, also the confused story about insurance paying for it was probably me as well. They paid for it, and I never took the intake off or lied about what happened in any way.

I know of someone that hydrolocked his TA in a similar fashion with a bottom fed intake that was situated near the front air dam on an f-body. His insurance covered everything, hopefully all of us Vararam owners have insurance that will cover this just in case, as the dealership is gonna look at you stupid when you try to convince them water got into the engine with the stock intake sitting parallel with the motor. You could always tell them your wife was washing the car with the hood open and the engine on!
I know somebody that hydrolocked a bone stock Neon - he was an idiot.
So, no Vararam hydrolocks - big surprise, another myth. One time, one car - a Vortex (which looks like it could happen much easier based on the design). So enough already! Go drive your cars and enjoy.
Then you missed the post where the guy had a rod that was bent 15 degrees before it snapped clean in half and happily gouged straight through the cylinder.
That wasn't vararam. That was the vortex. :D
Sorry stand corrected =) Still a good demonstration of hydrolock though.
Back to the original post. If DelMonte is going to dyno the engine after installing headers, how will he know what effect they have powerwise if he has the Vararam installed along with some other stuff without a baseline on those changes?
He want no the difference if he adds other power adders.
