Default TPIS question

I read someone who was selling some TPIS headers say they were selling them to get some "real" long tubes. What was he talking about. I am in the market for headers and this is one brand I was looking at. Does anyone have info on this? Do the LGs or FLPs give that much more power?

The LG's are suppose to be the best header on the market. From what I have read they give you alot more horsepower then other longtubes. The TPIS headers are not a bad header for the money. Kaley

It's been said the LG's are the only true long tube header out there....the rest (TPIS, FLP, SW, etc) are "mid length tubes". This is probably what whoever wrote that meant. I think the LG's are hands down the best header out there for these cars.

The TPIS are much cheaper, and they work fine. Many people have them and they have a good rep for fit/finish and performance. It's not a bad choice if you don't mind cutting into your stock midpipe to fit them to the cats.
I went with the FLP's just so I could keep all my stock stuff uncut and intact, and I liked the quick change cat/no cat option and included X-pipe. I (of course) did this just before the LG system hit the market and while I have no complaints with the FLP's, if I were buying now the LG's would be my choice without hesitation.

If you are considering the TPIS for budget reasons, I would also give strong consideration to the Stainlessworks headers just for the fact they are stainless and not much more $$.

TPIS makes a real nice product. The only problem is that they are mild steel and they usually start to rust within a year or so..

Who was it exactly that has said that?
Those other headers are NOT 'mid lengths', it's just that some headers are longer than others. ;)

There is no 'magic header' that does it all, there will always be some give and take when it comes to header design.

Nothing wrong with TPIS headers, Kooks might be even better yet. :yesnod:

I bought a set of KOOKs, for about 1/2 the price of some of the other headers, and I LOVE them. If you are planning on racing with open headers (no exhaust restrictions like cats and mufflers) then an extra couple of hp might be worth $500 or $600, but for the street, my stainless steel KOOKs work great. The are considered a true LT header by the way.

I have TPIS headers on my car and I think they are great. LG headers are supposed to be the best, but they're also over twice as much money. I couldn't justify the cost difference myself, but maybe you can. If you go with TPIS, make sure you get the ones that are ceramic coated. As was mentioned, they are mild steel. The coating will protect them from rust as well as keep the engine bay cooler. I've had mine for a little over a year and haven't seen any rust on them yet. They still look perfect.

So if I order TPIS headers can I order the high flow cats and x-pipe as a set. If I can who sells this?

for a 346 cubic inch motor in the 6600 to 7000rpm range the proper length for a 1 3/4" header is 32" (primary tubes) LGM is the only one that has that length--this should optimize power and deff torque in the low and mid range--I put short fat (1 7/8") headers with simple collector for dumping exhaust as quickly as possible to try to max upper range hp, I am sacrificing some low and mid but have more than my tires can handle anyway--

I have TPIS, I bought them used for $500.

I am happy with them, I do think the LGs are better, but for my $$ I am happy with the TPIS.

If I could find a used set of LG for $1000 and sell my TPIS for what I paid I don't think I would change.

$500 can buy you a N20 system  now that's a heck of a bang for your buck

For the money, TPIS headers are great.

I think the person that made that comment has a 427 stroker and wanted to max out his potential.

Love my TPIS headers. Great sound and great HP. so I really dont care if they are long tube of mid lenth.

Then I mated them with Random Tech High Flow Cats and X-pipe.

Then finally the GHL Bullets.

Love this combo with the sound and HP it makes.
