Default condensation in the trunk...

it started after i put the b+b prt's on. anyone had this problem? if i leave the rear 3 covers off, no more condensation. i am sure it is humidity related, but for two and a half years i never saw this, then came the new exhaust. is there some sort of heat shield that can be put on the outside of the car between the mufflers and the trunk area? i am going to do the sound dampening with the frost king duct insulation. i dont know if it will help the condensation, or get ruined by the condensation. i dont want to leave my covers off all the time, but i am keeping the prt's (love the sound). any thoughts? thanks in advance. jake

Are you writing that because of the heat raising from the new mufflers, water trapped in the carpet is condensating?

Seems to me there was a spill or water entered when you lifted the trunk during the rain. I'd remove the carpet and inspect the pad as to where the water is coming from. Else I'd look to the trunk seal for a tear.

I believe there are heat shields (OEM) as I recall one the drivers side. But not sure without looking.

i am writing because i have condensation in the trunk and dont understand why. it started after i got the new mufflers. when i open my compartment cover, all of my tools are wet, my fire extinguisher is wet, my towel that i keep in there was soaked. all three compartments had moisture on everything in them.

i doubt seriously that that amount of water entered during the rain because i opened the trunk. the rest of the carpet was dry, the cover piece in the center was warped a bit after it dried out.

my most reasonable explanation would be .... the exhaust is hot (hotter than stock?) and the temp goes up in the compartments. i turn the car off, do whatever and it cools down. any moisture in the air then condenses on everything. when i leave the covers off, no problems, i am guessing because the whole space in the back of the car is open and the 3 trunk areas have the same air temp instead of getting hot like with the covers on.

this is what i think is happening, but i doubt that i would be the only guy in the country with prt's that has this problem, if it was as i thought, a problem caused by hot exhaust.

i dont know of any heat shields, but that is what i am thinking i need, again, if the exhaust is the problem. if it is, do i put the heat shield outside or inside?
ps - b+b has never heard of it happening

If anyone is an expert when it comes to moisture problems there are a few of us on the forum that are GRAND MASTERS! I for one have solved 5 water/moisture related problems in my 98 coupe and can point you in the right directions.
First: Is the moisture condensing on the rear hatch window and front windshield? If it is, it a sure sign that you have something that is wet inside the car. More than likely its the jute insulation under the carpet. The carpet is a synthetic pile and the water will soak thru to the jute. The jute will stay wet for quite a while and will mildue.
Pull up the passengers AND drivers carpet and see if the jute insulation is damp or wet!
If it is dry check the carpet and jute in the rear deck area and check the well areas for water as well.

If you have moisture in any of these areas, post a reply and I will tell you where the water can be entering the car!

there is never any moisture in any area other than the 3 trunk spaces. i have the covers off right now so i have no omoisture. i will put them back on and see if it returns tomorrow or the next day. i work 12 hour shifts so i may not see it until my off-day, wednesday. i will let you know. thanks, jake
