Just bought my '02 Pewter A4 on 1/23/04. Beautiful car, but 2.73 gear sucks. Last Friday installed Blackwing + TB bypass. Sure was hard getting the star bolts back in at the front of the filter. Anyone have tool suggestions? Today I used GTech Pro to record 4.88 0-60 & 13.23 in 1/4; good launch; cool day. These #'s are nearly identical to pre Blackwing test. Might have picked up .05 in the 1/4. Does anyone have verified gains from the Blackwing? Not flaming the filter. It is a high quality piece, and I'm fairly certain it keeps more dirt out of the engine than stock.
My baseline run on my stock C5 M6 netted me 263 HP @ 5460 RPM & 281 ft-lb @ 4000 RPM (at around 75 mph) on the G-Tech. I've since added a Blackwing but haven't made a followup run. There's no straightaway long enough around here to do a 1/4 mile run without attracting too much attention, so I don't have 1/4 mile times. What did you see for max HP & Torque? I'll post my followup run when I have it...
Yea, it's a fun toy and I had been using the GTech to see what effect various mods do on my other cars. Just got the C5 a month ago and had to run it. The GTech is very consistant in its readings; my 95 Tahoe reads 117 HP consistanly over 6 runs at about 65 mph. My two runs with the C5 were 261 and 259 HP (one run in each direction in 2nd gear to 6000 RPM)...
BTW: have you had your Vette dyno tuned? What were the results? Is it worth getting a stock C5 dyno tuned? What kind of improvement should I expect? Thanks!!!

Not likely true.
Well, I'd like to think the Donaldson filter element is a little better than stock. I'm sure it has better "filtering" ability than a stock paper element. Maybe I'm wrong, but I hope not.
As far as performance gains, you should get a few more HP, but you wont get 20 or 30 :).
Wonder if you opened the cowl under the BW for cold air and installed the cover too. Otherwise you're sucking warm air from the engine bay and I wouldn't expect a big increase.

I would not do that. I have read posts that say doing that causes surging in the car.
I installed a Blackwing with a cover and opended it up underneth with a little scoup. My best before with an a4 and 2.73s was 13.93 at 102 with a 60 ft of 2.14. After the install I ran a 13.59 at 105 with a 60 ft f 2.13. As far as the G-tech I used it at the track at the same time and it said I was running a 13.2 at 115. I can also break the tires loose now and couldn't before, plus hit a top speed of 170 MPH before I ran out of road. I feel it was the 1st thing anyone should do. For the record my 13.93 was with the zip tie mod and a stock filter.
Gtech reports net horsepower and torque. It reports lower than a dyno because you're standing still on a dyno, you have actual drag in effect when the Gtech is measuring.
The Blackwing advertises a 15hp gain, that is maybe a .1 improvement in quarter mile times, probably too small to measure 0-60.

:iagree: The rolling resistance, drag, etc can be quite high. I is a good "yardstick" for trends. The Blackwing material by far exceeds OEM for filtering. This is the same media used on most millitary application in highly dusty/dirty situations.
The stock system is very restrictive and I too ran 13.9x stock but I put on the blackwing and a cooler t-stat and times dropped to 13.6x and I do'nt think the t- stat contributed that much.
How are you guys running 13.6's and 13.9's with a 350-375 hp car???? I ran a 12.80 at 110 with an A4 with 3.15 ratio and CAI. My C4 with basically stock was running 13.30's-13.50's at 103-104. My car dynoed at 323 hp and 342 tq. Your time would suggest almost a 75-100 hp deficit unless your short times were like 2.3-2.5.
