SEARCHED WITH NO LUCK ON THIS TOPIC SO HERE IT IS:HOW LARGE OF A COOLER IS RECOMENDNED FOR MODERATE STREET THRASHING USE ON A PRETTY MUCH STOCK ENGINE.BUT I MIGHT, DOWN THE LINE ,PUT A 3:42 IN SO THE TRANS MIGHT GET HOTTER WITH THIS MOD.SECOND PART :WHICH TRANS LINE DO YOU SPLICE INTO TO INSALL COOLER& ARE ANY ADAPTERS NEEDED FOR THIS BECAUSE THE LINES LOOK LARGER THAN MOST VEHICLES? I LIKE STACKED PLATE COOLERS BECAUSE OF THE LOW PRESSURE DROP,BUT WOULD APPRECIATE ANYONE WHO HAS INSTALLED ANY TYPE OF TRANS COOLER TO GIVE SOME INPUT ON THESE QUESTIONS. BACKWING, COOLANT BYPASS,MSD WIRES ,HI-FLOW AIRBRIDGE& COUPLER,BOSCH+4'S,&VARARAM VELOCTY STACK, ARE MY FEW MODIFICATIONS...
Welcome to the forum. Please turn off your caps lock, its shouting on the forum.I have the B&M trans cooler(26k-28k gvw)was recommended by Lou at LGM.Good for everything including a little autox and etc.Brought down my trans temps 20*.I have 3.42's with a 28k stall and H/C. jerry
Pep Boys. Auto Zone etc. also have tranny coolers of all sizes at reasonable prices. Easy to install. Definitely a must even if you are not going to race. Heat kills trannies, so the cooler is a no brainer.
We have a few different ways to cool your automatic. The first is running a front mount cooler, using aeroquip lines and fittings. The other way is to run a aftermarket radiator with built in tranny cooler (can be done with both oil and tranny coolers.) Please call me if you have any more questions.
I just had a oil cooler, accu-sump and a tranny cooler put in my car.
The tranny cooler pump is located in the right rear wheel well. If is very very loud and I do not turn it on for normal street driving. The tranny cooler is Earl's Perfomance Plumbing. The Oil cooler is GM perfromance parts.
( for some reason I can not get the pics to load up on to the forum when I post the location)
I thought about doing the work myself, but my better judgement said have a professional do the work. Some who put these coolers in racing corvettes all the time and knows how and where to run the lines.
I am sure my temps will be down. I will find out this next weekend as it is TRACK TIME AGAIN at VIR.
The tranny cooler I have dropped my normal temps to 170-180, and stay below 200 during autocross events. After I had put in the 3.42, I hit 258 and that was my wake up call to do something.
