I just purchased CCW wheels.
In there tech section they recommend removing the rotor retainer clips.
What is the purpose of this exercise?
Thanks, Tom.
There's a clip over 2 of the lug studs on each rotor. These were used for assembly purposes at the factory and serve no real function.
The OEM wheels have slight counterbores on the hub (mounting surface) to account for the thickness of these clips allowing the wheel to fit flat against the rotor hub.
Aftermarket wheels do not have this counterbore, so if you bolt the wheel on without removing the clips, it doesn't sit completely flat on the rotor hub. This could cause a slight wobble or vibration, or more likely, cause the lug nuts to loosen up over time.
Every aftermarket wheel I've ever had for any car stressed that these clips must be removed. The clips are very common on most every car, not just Vettes.
They can be pried and wiggled off with a large screwdriver.

It's a CYA factor for those that don't know what they're looking at when they see them and try to bolt up a brand new set of wheels. Dealing with the lowest common denominator, etc.

Hmm... I never heard this. My "original" CCWs seem to be fine. Next time I pull the wheels I'll take a look.
You may already have them removed or possibly because of the way CCW machines around the backside of their bolts holes, may be giving you plenty of clearance.

Everything I have read is that unless you are using factory wheels (which have a recessed space to accommodate the clips), you should take them off when using aftermarket wheels. Something about placing some stress on the wheels.
