We will put the LG Pro Long Tubes to the test again in the World Challenge series this week in Sebring Fl. Keep an eye on who has what headers and how well they do . http://leaderboard.vfx.com/SCCA/GT/LiveTiming_800.asp

Well Lou finished in 13th place at Sebring . The Caddilac CTS-V finished 1st and 2nd , I wonder who's headers they used ? Maybe Kooks ?

   I didnt know that the Caddy's had Kooks, I guess they won the dispute there.
Hey Darkness,

Have you ever thought about becoming a newspaper reporter? Seems like you don't get the facts straight. Lou posted why he came in 13th, "Hi Guys,
I am still here in Sebring after our OUTSIDE POLE winning Corvette had to start last because we flatspotted tires after a hit by a slower car on my cool off lap. The rules say that you must start on the same tires that you qualify on. I had to change them so I had to start at the back of the field". Besides, is it a fact the Caddy's are using Kook Headers?

:reddevil Your one crazy Devil Dog

:flag CaryNo but my MOS is 0204 (HUMINT/CI) check it out and you'll know what I'm talkin about........can you say propaganda? :D :reddevil

Can we get back to discussing headers, please?

Get off the fence and buy a set of stainless steel headers, any stainless steel headers. You can't go wrong with any choice, since you will definately have an improvement over stock. They are all good, and the performance differences between brands are marginal, at best. :)

The Racing Style Merge Collector on the Pro LG LT Header system gives it the best torque performance :reddevil :leaving:

:nono: Not a fair comparison. Mine still had stock air filter and mufflers.

Whoa- your still had the stock airbox? And Cary's had a Vortex?

Oh damn... That makes this a LOT more interesting...

Back to my previous statement:

Now the question: Which car had which mods?
Cary's car had a cat-back, the other did not
Cary's car is a '01 (350HP, 375 TQ), the other one was a '00- (345HP, 350TQ)
Cary's car had a Vortex, the other car had a stock intake.

Given those aove criteria, I would say the Kooks are at least as good as the LG's. I would like to see a dyno with data down to 2000 RPM to be sure, though... :lurk:
rPlaster's 99 Vette had zero mods other than the headers and tuning. NOTHING else. Not even an aftermarket filter. There is no question that with an aftermarket breather assy, an ls6 intake, a catback system, and whatever else that car had, the KOOKS car would have significantly more power regardless of RPM.

At 2000 RPM the KOOKS car made more torque than it did at the tq PEAK before the headers! If thats not low end torque then I don't know what is!

If you want to see the dyno data starting at 1800 RPM, it is on the my website. It is on the Dyno page. If you want in on the GP call me.

Thanks for the heads-up on the dyno- I updated my excel graph accordingly. If someone will host the graph for me... :D

Also, some new info on the Supermaxx headers:

1999 FRC with 47,XXX miles
Vortex Cold Air Intake, Borla Stingers
Supermaxx Headers, High Flow Cats & X-Pipe.
These runs were from 2,000 RPM to Redline in 4th gear.
65 Degrees 30% Humidity
Power to the wheels HP/TQ:
Run 1 = 319.4/329.6
Run 2 = 324.5/332.3
Run 3 = 327.6/335.5
Run 4 = 328.8/336.6
Run 5 = 330.2/340.2
Thanks to Darkness for the host:

Rplaster,

Also keep in mind that Cary's car is an A4 Automatic, and yours is a 6 speed. The power loss in the A4 is well documented. So you are correct that this is not a fair comparison. Were it a 6 speed on Cary's car the difference would be much more.

The early cars gain more from headers due to the very inefficient exhaust, and the deteriorated cats that make the "Before" numbers much lower.

I also seem to remember that you did 60 runs for your After tuning dyno.

Thanks
Lou G

Lou G, The only reason i posted my dyno results was to show people that the 1 7/8 headers are not to big for a stock motor, and make great power. I never tried to compare them to your headers. Everyone else did that. Cary compared his car to mine, which you and i both agree is not a fair comparison. Only one way to see who is the best. Same car, same dyno, bolt on your headers and Kooks, see who wins. Not sure what you meant about the 60 runs? I'm very satisfied with the headers and glad i went with the 1 7/8. I think it will help me for future plans and the money i saved paid for the Racetronix fuel pump. :D

For anybody still following this thread, here is every dyno chart I've been able to dig up on the various internet forums of the two headers.

For the sake of comparison, I only included 01-03 Z06's with very mild (if any other) mods. The LGM headered cars in general here have a few more mods than most of the Kooks cars did, and seemed to make a bit more tq in the 2500-3000 range, but that might be other-mod attributable.

But, draw your own conclusions:
http://www.jakelatham.com/performanc...ts/c5/headers/

The names are as descriptive as I could make them - e-mail me if there's anything missing or confusing, or if you have a graph I should add to that folder.

Sorry for any slow download speeds, my connection is getting hit pretty hard tonight with the new in-car video from racing on Sunday. :steering:

My C5 Pro LG LT Off Road Header System Dyno Graph did not make the cut :nonod: ...only Z06's :mad

:nono: Why is it so hard for you to admit the Pro LG LT Header System makes the Best low end torque (2500-3000)

 Cary

It appears that they do, but it is a possibility that the LGM's were partially helped by the pullies, ported TB's, air bridges, and various other mods that they had, that most of the Kook'ed cars did not. The LGM graphs also show a few more HP than the Kooks cars, probably also because of the same mods, but again, there's no telling one way or the other.

The only fellow that's done a direct back-to-back comparison said that the Kooks made the most power throughout the entire powerband on his car, followed by the LGM's and TPIS headers. But, he's not exactly an unbiased source, so it's hard to say for sure, and he's not posting any graphs to back up what he says.

I have done my research, and have drawn my own conclusions, I'm just pointing these things out for other folks.

I'm glad you're happy with your LGM's. I had some for a week or so, and they look fantastic. I hope my Kooks are as nice when they show up in a week or two. I'm also excited for the parts I'm planning to buy with the money I saved as a difference between the two.

If torque is what matters the most, why are some of us putting 230-240 duration cams???

Jake, thanks for posting your research. I am hoping to get a set of headers by the end of summer if my wife doesn't break my piggy bank with her new kitchen

Just curious, it sounds like you had LG's and then removed them and are now buying the Kooks. How come?

Got a few e-mails about this.

A while back, a fellow was selling a new set on the forum. I snagged them, but ended up having to re-sell them due to a few unexpected costs that came up all at once.

Fortunately, I was able to find a fellow selling a set of new Kooks yesterday, so I've got a second chance at installing a great set of headers for way under the normal price :)

Pulled from the other Supermaxx thread:

Now the question: Which car had which mods?
LG: A4,Catback, tuned, Vortex, LG headers, 01+ model
Kooks: MN6,Bone stock, tuned, Kooks Headers, 00- model
Supermaxx: MN6,Vortex, cat-back, untuned, 00- model

And the graph:

Too many different mods to really make a conclusive decision.
