Take the boot off and put a tennis ball around the shaft of the shifter, then put your boot back on over it. Use a heavy solid shift **** too. that will eliminate you probs.
I put a Breathless shifter in my '01 and haven't had a minutes problem with it.
Shift are short and positive, couldn't ask for anything better. I also like the ability to make adjustments to the shifter. IMO it's the best shifter on the market today bar none.
The Kirban does NOT make any more noise, rattle or do anything other than give you a more positive shift. LOVED mine when I had it (sold the car). And you can use whatever shift **** you want without having to worry about if it's too light, or whatever...

Its not a problem of the Hurst only...my Kirban rattled like crazy- I replaced the **** with the silver ball- very heavy.
Its never made a noise since then....and I love it.

:iagree: This should fix the vibration problem with ANY after market shifter
I just put mine in this past weekend, and it is very solid NO extra noise or issues. I removed the stops (which seem like would cause some rattling if left in) and have a nice MGW Gripper ****....she works great. EXTREMELY HAPPY!!
I will say that I had a rattle in my hurst since I put it in. Only in 2nd gear while applying pressure to it but it was annoying. Not wnough to take it out as I love the shifting.
In any case, I have an aftermarket knopb, the carbon fiber one w/ the C5 flags and could never tighten it all the way down because it would not line up. There is no set screw. I put some folded up paper in-between the shifter and **** and that allowed me to really trighten it and have it straight.
i am about take my hurst out and sell it all the rattling makes me wanna sell it
which shifter should i get that dont rattle??
BNM
Breathless
or kirban??
well, it look slike you havent been researching the problem on the forum. youll find many ideas here on the forum to eliminate that. :smash:
It is likely your stock **** on the new shifter. Replace the old **** with a new unit and it will likely fix the problem. I just seen a Black shifter **** for 35 dollars shipped in the C5 parts for sale section.
 Sorry to hear your problem, but it's just that I've heard it so many times.
I've installed about 12 Hurst shifters in C5 / Z06 cars including my own.
Here's a couple install tips for you:
1. If you installed the shifter w/ the external shift stops, remove them, your trans has internal shift stops and you don't need the external ones. That usually fixes the rattle.
2. If you have gaping hole in under your boot, cut out that section from the rubber part that came off w/ your OE shifter and silicone it back in place. This will reduce heat and noise.
3. If you still have rattling (which by now should be very minimal if any) put a short section of hose over the shaft to dampen it.
4. IMHO, it's not the shift **** that makes the difference. It's primarily #1 above.
