i am about take my hurst out and sell it all the rattling makes me wanna sell it
which shifter should i get that dont rattle??
BNM
Breathless
or kirban??
Are you sure it's the shifter and the ball on the shifter? I heard people say that their stock ball rattles on the Hurst shifter, try a aftermarket ball with a locknut or get a locknut for the stock shifter, the treads are 9/16" - 18.
My Hurst has never vibrated, rattled, or anything else. I would try to figure out what the problem is before I would just go out and buy another shifter. If it is something with the transmission, etc. it might just end up doing the same thing with the new shifter.
the Hurst is a great shifter, but it does take some creative mods to eliminate the rattling and vibration. Here's how I fix mine, I hope it helps, 1) I took the stock rubber boot(the round ring and turn it inside out. 2)I put dynamat around the the base of the shifter. 3) I bought a universal shifter boot(for $9.95 at a local parts store) then I cut the base the rubber boot, and I glued it to the round ring on the stock boot. 4)I also wrap dynamat around the shaft of the Hurst, cut dynamat 1/4inche wide and wrap more at the lower part and the shaft, and work your way up, use cable tie to secure dynamat. 5 finally I put silicon around the stock rubber boot the the universal boot. Well I hope this helps, my Hurst does not make any sounds nor vibration at all. email me if you need help.
Have had the Hurst in for 8 months and no rattles, I use the old Hurst "T" bar handle, do not know if the stock one rattles, do not want to find out. Like the Hurst, good luck on your search.
If you're using your stock **** with an aftermarket shifter - it will rattle and make noise because its too light. All aftermarket shifters will make a little more noise than stock.
I have the Hurst shifter and it makes no noise. I used the MGW billet **** - comes in two styles and a few color options to suit your preference. You want a heavy **** to help eliminate the rattle and noise.
There are also a few things you can do before removing the shifter - this is what I tried: get two rubber PVC caps (one 2.5" and one 3") and cut a hole in the center - just big enough to fit the shifter (5/8"?), and slide the 2.5" inside the 3" and push them down the stem of the shifter with the cap top facing up.
You can also add wheel weights to the stem and wrap it with tape. I never had to try this - but read that it helps.
The Hurst is the best aftermarket shifter in my opinion and there is no way I would go back to stock. The B&M will make more noise. I don't know much about the Kirban.
The Kirban does NOT make any more noise, rattle or do anything other than give you a more positive shift. LOVED mine when I had it (sold the car). And you can use whatever shift **** you want without having to worry about if it's too light, or whatever...
I have owned the B&M and I know have the Hurst. The ripper was hard to shift and was not adjustable. I bought the Hurst and I use a Momo **** and have had no issues. I would switch ***** 1st before I got rid of it!
Had my Hurst for two weeks, now running stock. Care to guess why? I could never get the rattles/tunnel noise/noise in general to an acceptable level. Got sick of dealing with it. I will take stock, thank you very much. I did buy a used stock for cutting down slightly, I haven't tried that yet though.
That's a very elaborate proceedure, but it sounds like it should dampen any possible vibrations...good to hear new ways to fix this old problem. Mine never made any noise for the start, but I know that any extra vibrations in a C5 are irritating.
